Black Wall Street
If you don’t know anything about Black Wall Street I highly recommend that you research it. On a side note, this is personal to me because I had a cousin who was a Tulsa Massacre survivor. She was a little girl at the time and her step father’s doctor’s office was bombed. They narrowly escaped. Sadly still, many know nothing about this tragic part of history (not even Oklahomans which is even more sad since it happened in Oklahoma). However, now that story is starting to come into the lime light, and I even hear that there will be a movie coming out about it soon. To give you an idea of how successful Black Wall Street was let’s look at some facts…
Black Wall Street started in a community called Greenwood in Tulsa, OK by O.W. Gurley who purchased 40 acres in the area.
Black Wall Street flourished as one of the most prosperous African American communities.
The dollar passed at least 36 times within the community before it went out.
What am I saying? Well, what I want to do is highlight BOBs on this blog. As I’ve mentioned, one of the purposes of this blog is to provide resources to our Village Mamas. Sometimes we don’t know where to go or who to ask. I want to make it simple and easily accessible. I also want to give business owners the opportunity to expand. We are a village!!!
Let’s F.O.C.U.S!
Today I want to highlight a new and upcoming successful author! Her name is Cherish McMillan. She is described as “a tiny woman with big ideas….” When you read upon her accomplishments you’ll see why.
So far, Cherish has completed 2 degrees and a professional certification; a Bachelor’s degree in English from the University of Maryland, a Master’s degree in Broadcast and Digital Journalism from Syracuse University, and Professional certification in Social Media Marketing from the University of Delaware.
She’s been a varsity cheerleader, a high school literacy and writing coach, a peer tutor, an English teacher, a high school technology teacher, a radio producer, a TV network Social Media and Website Administrator, and (in her spare time) has trained for, and completed, a half-marathon and full-marathon.-taken from McMillian’s biography
In her spare time, she loves to give back to the community. Her ministry is the homeless population. Her latest accomplishment is publishing the book, F.O.C.U.S., an encouraging and energetic book based on McMillan’s personal philosophy of “completion” -her “success formula”.
This book encourages you to focus on your goals and guides you step by step on how to achieve success! It empowers you to figure out your purpose, and how to bring your vision into fruition. It is perfect for all ages! It is interactive and fits into any curriculum! Village Mamas, let’s show our support and purchase this book!

There were times in the past that I showed up when summoned. Now fearless, look for me, ’cause I’m coming!”-Alice McMillan
